The matches to watch on opening day
Gen.G vs Invictus Gaming
The first match immediately pits Korea’s top seed against an LPL challenger. A best-of-one leaves no room for a slow start, making this an important early test even though the losing team remains in the tournament.
Hanwha Life Esports vs TOP Esports
Another LCK-LPL meeting follows. These two interregional clashes headline an opening round with no matches between teams from the same regional league.
Anyone’s Legend vs Karmine Corp
Karmine Corp enter as the final team to reach Swiss after a 3-0 win over MVK Esports in the Play-In final on October 18. Their reward is an immediate game against the LPL’s top seed. Read our Karmine Corp vs MVK Play-In final recap for KC’s path to the main stage.
G2 Esports vs Dplus KIA
G2’s first Swiss opponent is Korea’s Dplus KIA. Europe has three teams in the 16-team draw – G2, Movistar KOI and Karmine Corp – and all three begin against LCK or LPL competition.
LOS vs T1
Brazilian champions LOS take on defending world champions T1. It is an especially visible interregional pairing, and another example of the uncertainty a one-game opening round can create.
How the Worlds 2026 Swiss Stage works
The Swiss Stage runs October 23-31 and starts with all 16 teams holding a 0-0 record. Teams with the same win-loss record are paired in later rounds.
- Three match wins – qualify for the eight-team Knockout Stage.
- Three match losses – elimination from Worlds.
- Opening matches – best-of-one.
- Qualification and elimination matches – best-of-three, using Fearless Draft.
Round 1 paired the strongest draw tier with the fourth tier, and the second tier with the third. Teams from the same region could not meet in Round 1. Later rounds allow same-region games, but repeat matchups are not permitted during the Swiss Stage.
The Knockout Stage begins November 3, with the World Championship final scheduled for November 14 in Brooklyn, New York.
